Gary Cahill opted to remain a Chelseaplayer until his contract expires in the summer despite having offers to move during the January transfer window.The Blues were prepared to let Cahill leave and it is thought a deal between them and Fulham had been agreed, but the defender was reluctant to make the short trip to Craven Cottage.2

Cahill will stay at Chelsea until the summer

In addition, the 33-year-old also turned down potential moves to Serie A champions Juventus and Ligue 1 strugglers Monaco, report Sky Sports.Cahill’s last appearance was against Greek side PAOK in November in the Europa League and he has only played 21 minutes of Premier League football this season.Maurizio Sarri’s side have a number of important fixtures coming up in February and Cahill could feature. They have Premier League games against Manchester City (10 February) and Tottenham(27 February), and Manchester United in the FA Cup on 18 February.Pep Guardiola’s City also await them in the Carabao Cup final on 24 February.Cahill joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers in January 2012 and has played 289 times. He has won a Champions League, two Premier League titles, a League Cup and the FA Cup.In December, Sarri admitted the England international did not fit in with his style of play.“I respect him very much because he has won everything with this club, but then I have to do my job,” Sarri said.2

The defender has barely featured this season

“Every match I have to choose. For me it is not [possible] to have him on the bench. Maybe he is the best [of our defenders] in the box, but our defenders may play 100 or 110 balls in a match so I need defenders [to play] very technically.“It is not my decision, it is up to him and the club [whether he stays]. He is in the last year of the contract, he has to decide for a new contract here or another club.“For the [players] over 30 the club usually offers only one year of contract. If he has an offer of three years [somewhere else] he can of course choose something. It doesn’t depend if I am sentimental or not.”
